At the interior of the University of Montpellier, the “Centre for Political Study in Latin Europe” was founded in 1983 on research
topics related to the land and academic networks in Southern Europe.
CEPEL is also affiliated both to the CNRS (National Centre for
Scientific Research). The unit refers to the scientific fields of
political science and sociology. University of Montpellier & CEPEL
occupy a high place in the landscape of French and international
research in terms of land and thematic priorities and methodological
preferences. In the field of cultural policy and sociology of culture
audiences, CEPEL can be considered as one of the leading research centre
in France, according to its recent works about festival audiences,
cultural diversity and comparative cultural policies.
